One Way Road, Robbie McEwen
Reviewed by Claud
 | The
book was a good read because it shared the hopes & dreams, trials &
tribulations of Robbie's cycling life.
Let's face it; these are the things that make a life entertaining and a
book readable.
After
listening to Robbie speak about his book at the Adelaide book signing, it was
great that the book had a 'Robbie speaking' feel about it. You get a sense of how good the highlights
were, how the difficult setbacks were overcome. I really liked the graphic Aussie
style descriptions of crashes, injuries, physical pain and recovery.
There
is also a wistful sense of how things could have been in the book. Even though Robbie is only 39 you get a
picture of his era and how things have changed already in the world of
professional cycling, such as Cavendish not being a GC rider but still getting
the same media glory.
Robbie's
unique stance on when to quit a career really stands out. He does not believe in 'retiring at the top of
your game' but wants to continue to compete while he believes there is still one
more win in him.
Overall
this is a very readable book and well worth the effort. |
